MScPower Engineering - Clean Fossil and Alternative Fuels Energy

Tuition fee €12,000.00 per year

You may apply for a scholarship. If you are successful in your application, you will be offered one of two types of scholarship, as follows:
- Fee waiver only
- Fee waiver + a monthly allowance of up to €750 for a maximum of 24 months

If you secure a scholarship that does not offer a monthly allowance, you must make sure you have enough funds to cover your living costs during your time at the InnoEnergy Master’s School.

How to apply for a scholarship – When applying, please tick the appropriate box in the application form. Scholarships can only be awarded to applicants to InnoEnergy Master’s programmes. It is not possible to apply for an InnoEnergy scholarship when you are already enrolled in an InnoEnergy Master’s programme.

There may be restrictions on when you can apply for a scholarship, depending on the programme you apply for and where you are from, as follows:

EU* Students

You may apply for and be awarded a scholarship during application round 0, application round 1 and application round 2
Non-EU* Students

You may apply for and be awarded a scholarship during application round 0 and application round 1 for Master’s programmes that accept applications during these rounds.

Who gets a scholarship – Scholarships are awarded only to the highest ranking applicants on each programme. The ranking is based on several criteria such as academic performance, quality of previous education and university, or experience with innovation and entrepreneurship.

Scholarship amounts – The amount of funding available for scholarships depends on the budget available for each programme. They may therefore vary each year.

Please note: It is not possible to appeal decisions regarding scholarships, and the selection results (ranking) do not constitute grounds for an appeal.

It is not possible to transfer an InnoEnergy Master’s School scholarship to another InnoEnergy programme or to a non-InnoEnergy programme.

Scholarships paid in Poland – these are currently subject to taxation in accordance with the provisions of Polish law. SUT endeavour to arrange tax exemptions for their students. However, the final decision is issued by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education in accordance with the binding provisions on personal income tax (Journal of Laws of 2012 No. 361 as amended).

Code of conduct. All students, including those in receipt of an InnoEnergy scholarship, agree to the terms of the . Any breaches of the code of conduct may result in the student agreement being dissolved.

Graduates acquire knowledge with the ability to develop entrepreneurial skills and innovative thinking in clean coal based industry and a renewable energy sector. It focuses on technologies that lead to the efficient thermal and chemical conversion of coal, with reduced pollutant emissions to the air, water and land. In addition, strong emphasis is put on understanding, applying and integrating fossil fuels and renewables to create high-efficiency, eco-friendly and sustainable power systems.

Developing clean technologies for energy generated by fossil fuels is a critical part of the global journey to a sustainable energy future. The Master’s in Clean Fossil and Alternative Fuels explores the twin challenges of reducing emissions from fossil fuels that are still widely used around the world, and enabling integration with and transition to renewable, sustainable alternatives.

Through small-group study, this programme will strengthen your engineering and management skills, develop your awareness of the industry and its challenges, and connect you to a network of key industry players, so you can have a direct and immediate impact on reducing carbon emissions on graduation.

Companies and research bodies, including Tauron, Lotos, ICS Industrial Combustion Systems, and EDF Polska are actively engaged in the programme, as are Rafako Grupa and Amec Foster Wheeler, as well as smaller innovative firms such as MetalERG, Spyra, Primo Poland, SBB Energy and Hamitabat Elektrik Üretim ve Ticaret. The Alliance for Rural Electrification and the Institute for Chemical Processing of Coal also play a key part in the programme.

MSc Clean Fossil and Alternative Fuel Energy is an international programme for an international industry. You will join students from all over the world at two different universities and at a European business School. After successfully completing the programme and your thesis, you will receive a double diploma in the form of a Master’s degree from two of the following institutes:

The Silesian University of Technology, Poland: Master of Engineering
The Instituto Superior Técnico, Portugal: Master of Energy Engineering and Management

MSc Clean Fossil and Alternative Fuel Energy is a programme accredited by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

This programme focuses on the unique subject ‘Fossil and new-generation fuels’ combined with entrepreneurial skills and innovative thinking. Strong emphasis is placed on how to integrate chemical fuels with renewables to create high-efficiency sustainable power systems. Energy companies actively support this programme with internships, study visits and guest lectures from business specialists. This unique blend, together with the international environment, will help you throughout your professional career.

MSc Clean Fossil and Alternative Fuels Energy primarily focuses on technologies that lead to the efficient thermal and chemical conversion of coal, with reduced pollutant emissions to air, water and land at all levels and stages of the operation, as well as the application of biomass or unconventional hydrocarbons, e.g. shale gas.

As a student, you will notice the active support of energy companies via programme content such as mandatory internships, guest lectures, study visits to modern energy installations and soft-skills training together with industry experts.

At the end of the programme you will have acquired a systematic, in-depth understanding of the principles and practices of all stages of power systems operation and implementation from technical, economical and judicial points of view.
