Overview

The Bachelor of Science degree programme in Geoengineering and Raw Materials Exploitation provides knowledge and skills in a broad range of engineering disciplines related to the exploitation of raw materials and practical problems of geoengineering. The education in this field of study is exceptionally wide-ranging and combined with the development of teamwork and leadership qualities.

During the first semesters, students acquire knowledge and practical skills in the field’s major subjects, such as computer science, CAD in engineering graphics, electrical engineering, engineering modelling, fundamentals of environmental engineering and fundamentals of raw material extraction, and industrial machinery and robotics. From the fourth semester onwards, students complete PBL projects. After the fourth semester, it is time to choose a diploma path. According to this choice, after another three semesters of study, graduates receive an engineering diploma specialising in modern opencast or underground mining of raw materials, geology or engineering machinery and industrial robotics. If you choose one of the two paths related to the extraction of raw materials, the graduate will be prepared for operational management in mining companies, designing technological processes and underground facilities, as well as solving a wide range of engineering problems related to the development of raw material deposits. They will learn about the latest technologies and innovative solutions used in the mining industry, including the assumptions of Industry 4.0 and digitalization of mines. He/she will also explore the concepts of sustainable deposit management and closed loop economy.

Graduates of the Geology diploma pathway acquire expanded knowledge of the structure of the Earth’s lithosphere and the processes that shape it and their effects, as well as the history of the Earth. They are familiar with the genesis and structure of deposits and rational management of these deposits and their raw materials. The student will be able to conduct research on minerals, rocks and industrial waste. He/she knows the principles of designing and conducting research for the recognition of water resources and quality and hydrogeological conditions in the rock mass. He/she has an extended knowledge of engineering geology, in the field of determination of foundation conditions of building objects and design of specialized geotechnical works.

Graduates of the Engineering Machines and Industrial Robotics diploma programme possess complete theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of construction and operation of engineering, road and mining machines, mechanics, automation of industrial processes and industrial robotics. He/she has knowledge in the selection of construction materials for engineering applications and strength of materials, manufacturing and technical diagnostics and monitoring of machinery and equipment. In the course of studies, he/she acquires skills in the selection of mining machines and mechanization systems in surface and underground mining. Graduates also acquire skills in designing and selecting earthmoving and road construction technologies, and are familiar with the requirements for ensuring safety of using engineering machines.
The acquired qualifications make the graduate a modern engineer, who can find employment in a variety of companies in positions requiring a high level of knowledge, creativity and responsibility for decisions.

Graduates of the Reclamation and management of post-industrial areas diploma programme possess knowledge and skills in recognizing and combating threats associated with the impact of industrial activity on the environment. They are able to design and carry out works related to the restoration of industrial sites to their original state and their management in accordance with the latest international trends. They know methods of protecting and revitalizing postindustrial sites, including historic ones. He or she can use modern measuring techniques and specialized computer software to support revitalization works. He/she can prepare and manage revitalization projects.

Graduates may take up employment in e.g:

companies dealing with the extraction, processing and sale of raw materials and management of mineral waste,
companies of the electrical-machine industry, as well as companies using industrial robotics and entities carrying out engineering, construction and road works,
companies using mining and drilling technologies,
companies carrying out geological and engineering works,
companies dealing with revitalization of post-industrial areas.
